20 August update: Etappe 4 begint in Barakaldo, in Baskenland, en gaat in zuidelijke richting naar een aankomst bergop in skioord Estación de Valdezcaray, waar na 160 kilometer de streep getrokken is. Het is de vierde maal dat de Vuelta Estación de Valdezcaray aandoet, maar niet meer sinds 1991. De beklimming is 13,4 km lang maar heeft een bescheiden stijgingspercentage van 5,2%, dus hij zal geen al te grote veranderingen teweegbrengen.
